ANADIGICS Expands its Wireless Product Portfolio with the Introduction of a New Family of PHEMT Switches

Single supply switches provide a small, efficient solution for next generation multi-band handsets

Warren, NJ. ANADIGICS, a leading supplier of wireless and broadband solutions, expanded its portfolio of innovative control devices with the introduction of a new family of PHEMT switches at the Wireless Symposium/Portable by Design Conference in San Jose, CA. Utilizing ANADIGICS 6-inch PHEMT manufacturing technology, the innovative RF switches provide a cost-effective solution that meets the rigorous performance requirements of next generation multi-band GSM handsets.

The new switches include the AWS5505, transfer switch with a single-pole double-throw (SPDT), AWS5507and AWS5512, transfer switches (TRSS), and AWS5508, single-pole four-throw (SP4T). In addition to these efficient space-saving devices, the Company plans to add more than 10 new innovative switches to this PHEMT product family in 2000.

"These switches are the first in a family of PHEMT RFICs designed to offer a high level of integration and functionality for band and mode selection and antenna switching in next generation handsets," remarked Glenn Fraser, Vice President of Wireless Communications Products, ANADIGICS. "We are aggressively developing a complete portfolio of multi-throw control devices that enable multi-band, multi-mode selection using one IC. This enables handset manufacturers to save costly circuit board space while providing the high performance required for GSM handsets."

Operating from a single 3-Volt supply, the AWS5508 uses its control inputs to switch between the antenna and Tx/Rx ports to provide GSM 900MHz, DCS 1800 MHz and PCS 1900 MHz band selection. In addition to saving board space and reducing component count, the innovative SP4T switch delivers a maximum insertion loss of 0.8 dB at 1 GHz. The AWS5508 also demonstrates isolation of 25 dB, and a low harmonic distortion of 65dBc at +34dBm to meet the requirements of next generation GSM handset designs.

The AWS5505, AWS5507 and AWS5512 transfer switches (TRSS) are designed for dual-band applications where Tx/Rx diversity is required. These RF devices are ideal for handset designs that require high linearity, up to +45dBm, as well as a combination of transmit/receive and antenna selection functionality in one device. Providing an insertion loss as low as 0.4 dB at 900 MHz, the devices also deliver low power consumption and very low distortion.

Housed in space-saving MSOP-10, MSOP-8, MLP-16, and SOT-26 plastic packages, the new PHEMT switches are priced between $.75 and $1.40 in quantities of 100,000 units. Samples of the devices will be available in March 2000. The devices are manufactured at the Company s state-of-the-art facility in New Jersey and are 100% RF tested before shipping.

ANADIGICS (NASDAQ: ANAD) designs and manufactures radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) solutions for growing broadband and wireless communications markets. The Company s innovative high frequency RFICs enable manufacturers of communications equipment to enhance overall system performance, manufacturing cost, and time to market.
