Rockwell Creates Technology Subsidiary; Rockwell Technologies, LLC, Will Manage Company's Intellectual Property Initiatives

Thousand Oaks, CA. Rockwell (NYSE:ROK) announced today that it has created a subsidiary, Rockwell Technologies, LLC, that will promote the company s intellectual capital to the commercial marketplace.

"Rockwell s continuing investment in research and development places it in a premier group of technology-driven companies," said James O Shaughnessy, Rockwell vice president and chief intellectual property counsel. "In addition to the direct corporate benefits we derive from our R&D investments, we create intangible assets which possess substantial latent value. The mission of Rockwell Technologies is to identify that latent value and convert it into a stream of income."

Rockwell Technologies LLC is headquartered in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and led by Ted Izen, president. Previously, Izen was director of licensing and commercialization for the Rockwell Science Center, the company s research and development laboratory.

"In developing winning technologies for its businesses, Rockwell has produced innovations that we believe are valuable in the global technology marketplace," Izen said. "Rockwell Technologies will seek to maximize the value of those innovations and seek partners for technology and product development when appropriate." In addition to licensing intellectual property from Rockwell s automation, avionics and communications and electronic commerce businesses, Rockwell Technologies will also license the many technologies available from the Rockwell Science Center (RSC).

RSC has been credited with a variety of industry firsts, including high-speed Gallium Arsenide semiconductors used in most U.S. digital cellular telephones, flat panel display technology that enables pilots to more easily view cockpit flight information, and advanced imaging sensors used in most of the world s infrared telescopes.

RSC is also developing several technologies with strong near-term potential. These include micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), miniature devices that will displace many electronic sensors and components with superior functionality; small, low power wireless sensors for remote monitoring of operating machinery or for industrial and military security applications; and micro-optical components for improving the performance of fiber optical telecommunication systems and imaging sensors.

Rockwell is a $7 billion electronic controls and communications company with global leadership positions in industrial automation, avionics and communications, and electronic commerce. The company employs approximately 40,000 people at more than 450 locations serving customers in more than 80 countries.
