Alpha Industries Wins Production Orders with Premier European Handset Manufacturer, Groupe Sagem

Woburn, MA. Alpha Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:AHAA) announced today that it is making volume shipments against production orders from Groupe Sagem, the largest French manufacturer of GSM wireless phones, and one of the largest global manufacturers of GSM wireless handsets. Alpha s products in the Sagem handsets include a new advanced 3 volt RF IC switch based on Alpha s proprietary gallium arsenide (GaAs) PHEMT technology. Shipments for this Sagem handset are ramping to a multi-million dollar level this year.

"These production orders are particularly important for Alpha because they represent the first volume shipments of our most advanced GaAs IC switches, and because Sagem is an important new customer for Alpha," said Dave Fryklund, Alpha s General Manager, RF IC Products.

"Alpha is the technology leader in RF IC switch technology," Mr. Fryklund continued, "and our PHEMT (pseudo-heterojunction electron mobility transistor) switches for wireless handsets are the most efficient available worldwide. This switch is the first member of an even more advanced family of PHEMT products that we introduced five months ago. These new high-power, high-linearity PHEMT IC switches do not need a negative voltage connection, simplifying circuit board design and reducing the cost of implementation.

"Sagem is a leading world player in mobile telephony, whose innovative new products are helping them to become even more important. Alpha is a dominant player and leading technology innovator in the world-wide market for GaAs IC switches. Sagem s decision to establish a relationship with Alpha reinforces our conviction that this switch technology will become the industry standard."

Alpha Industries designs and manufactures a broad range of products for microwave and radio frequency wireless communications applications. The Wireless Semiconductor segment provides gallium arsenide (GaAs) integrated circuits and other semiconductors to the dynamic global market for wireless telephone handsets.
