Tyco Electronics Launches New Products For Wireless Applications

Source: M/A-COM

Highly Integrated Products from M/A-COM Are Based on Leading-Edge Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) Technology

LOWELL, Mass., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- M/A-COM, a division of Tyco Electronics Corporation, and a leading global provider of wireless radio frequency (RF) and microwave components, today announced a new suite of products for use in cellular telephones, PCS mobile phones, wireless LAN, ISM and other battery operated RF applications.

The new low-cost, highly integrated upconverter and downconverter integrated circuits ("IC s") from M/A-COM are designed to meet the stringent linearity and low current requirements of CDMA and TDMA handsets. These converters each integrate an IF amplifier, a mixer, a LO buffer, and various other components into a small, plastic package.

The MD59-0039 upconverter is used in cellular band CDMA handsets and communications systems; the MD59-0043 is an ultra-low current downconverter used in cellular band CDMA handsets and other battery operated RF systems; the MD59-0049 low-current downconverter is for use in PCS band RF systems; and the MD59-0044 wideband downconverter offers superior linearity for cellular and PCS mobile phones, wireless LAN, ISM and other battery operated RF applications.

According to Suja Ramnath, product manager for M/A-COM, "M/A-COM s complete converter chipset solutions provide the highest linearity performance with the lowest possible current draw, in compact, rugged plastic packages. These chipsets perform better than their silicon germanium counterparts and provide board-saving levels of integration unavailable in gallium arsenide until now. Our converters provide better linearity performance at the same or lower current and DC power dissipation than competing products and out-perform the competition in conversion gain efficiency and linearity efficiency, giving the system designer more flexibility in meeting linearity targets without compromising battery life."

Availability

These new upconverters and downconverters are available immediately through M/A-COM s domestic and international distribution network and direct sales channels.
