Source: Franklin Publishing and IOP Publishing

IOP Publishing (Bristol, England) and Franklin Publishing (Beverly, Massachusetts, USA) announced today that they have entered into a strategic alliance aimed at meeting the rising demand for information resources in the compound semiconductor industry. Franklin Publishing, through its flagship product, Compound Semiconductor Magazine, is the leading media company in the compound semiconductor industry. IOP Publishing s portfolio includes the highly respected Physics World magazine, as well as several fast-growing publications in the telecommunications field including FibreSystems and Wireless Europe.

This alliance will enable new and better products and services to meet the needs of the compound semiconductor industry. Circulation for Compound Semiconductor will be doubled in 2001, distribution in the Asian and European markets will be increased, and delivery times to all locations will be shortened. Enhanced services for advertisers will also be added.

The IOP and Franklin Publishing will jointly produce a major new event for the compound semiconductor industry in 2001. To be held in Boston in July, the Compound Semiconductor Manufacturing Expo (CS-MAX for short) will be the first conference and exposition for the compound semiconductor industry to focus on high volume manufacturing topics. In addition, the www.CompoundSemiconductor.Net website will be expanded. This site is already the largest of its kind in the industry, hosting 25,000 individual user sessions and more than 100,000 page views per month.

"Everyone at Franklin Publishing is very excited about this alliance," said Marie Meyer, President of Franklin Publishing. "Working together, we ll be able to greatly enhance and improve the services that we provide to the compound semiconductor industry." Ms. Meyer, Richard Dixon and Tim Whitaker will continue to serve in their current roles as Managing Editor, News Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Compound Semiconductor Magazine.

Under the terms of the alliance the IOP has acquired ownership of the magazine, and will take over the production, sales and distribution functions. Franklin Publishing will retain responsibility for editorial content and direction.

"Franklin Publishing has the respect and support of the global compound semiconductor industry. We are delighted to be working with them to further enhance their contribution," said Jerry Cowhig, Managing Director at Institute of Physics Publishing. "Together we expect to expand existing opportunities and create exciting new ones for companies operating in the compound semiconductor field."
