CyOptics Expands Manufacturing Facilities to Meet Emerging Demand for 40Gbps Active Optical Components

Source: CyOptics

Burlington, MA. CyOptics (www.CyOptics.com), a leading developer of 40Gbps active components, is expanding its manufacturing facilities by over 30,000 square feet, the company announced today.

This expansion will provide CyOptics with added manufacturing capacity for its 40Gbps Indium Phosphide devices. CyOptics manufacturing facilities include both an Indium Phosphide wafer fab for optical chip production, and optoelectronic packaging meeting the stringent demands of 40Gbps telecom grade optical components. The new facility is located in Yokneam, Israel, in close driving distance to both Tel Aviv and Haifa.

"Expanding our manufacturing infrastructure will enable us to meet our customers needs for real-world, high volume manufacturing of 40Gbps components," said Dror Motovilov, CyOptics vice president of Operations. "First qualification devices from these facilities are expected in Q3 2000, with full scale manufacturing in 2002." Recent RHK projections for 40Gbps active components are $1.4B in 2004, a CAGR of close to 200 percent. In addition, the 2004 forecast for 10Gbps active components is $4.7B, a CAGR of 49 percent.

"Demand for 40Gbps optical components continues to be strong, as our customers work aggressively to develop first 40Gbps systems, test them, and qualify them in carrier networks," added Eran Yarkoni, president of CyOptics. "First commercial deployment of 40Gbps optical systems is expected at the end of this year, and component demand precedes system deployment by at least six months."
