ANADIGICS Ships More Than 1 Million Tuner ICs to Motorola

DOCSIS compliant RF solutions from ANADIGICS enable Motorola s industry-leading cable modem designs

Warren, NJ. ANADIGICS, a leading supplier of DOCSIS compliant RF solutions for the cable modem industry, has announced that in 1999 the Company shipped more than 1 million gallium arsenide (GaAs) QAM tuner integrated circuits (ICs) for implementation in Motorola s cable modem products. The cable access technology market is enjoying substantial growth, and Motorola s Multimedia Group, the industry leader in cable access technology, recently shipped its 1 millionth cable modem. ANADIGICS RF tuning solution consists of the ACU50751 upconverter and the ACD0900 downconverter. The DOCSIS compliant 64/256 QAM chipset performs the functions of a double-conversion cable television (CATV) tuner. Due to its industry-leading linearity and noise figure, the chipset offers a superior bit-error-rate than discrete single or double conversion solutions over a wide dynamic range. "Several years ago, Motorola selected our ICs for implementation in its cable modem solutions. Since then, the cable market has grown at an impressive pace, and Motorola has continued using our ICs in high-volume production while maintaining its leadership position in the cable market," observes Ron Michels, Vice President of Cable & Broadcast Products at ANADIGICS. "Today, Motorola is working with us in the development and evaluation of our next generation of cable tuner products." The chipset minimizes manufacturing time, because its consistent performance does not require any adjustment or tuning during the manufacturing process. "Since this chipset is implemented in GaAs, it offers a better noise figure and much lower distortion than other available solutions," Michels explains. "These features will help manufacturers such as Motorola meet consumer demands for integrated high-speed data, voice, and video services."
